The trend of taking African motifs into the home has been around for a while. In the past this style has been associated with strong earth colours such as browns, oranges and tans. This combination suggests the heat and vibrancy of the African continent. This look is beautifully set off against dramatic African sculpture and vivid patterned accessories.

This ethnic look can also be introduced using a more muted palette using the harmonious sands, bleached linen and caramel colours as a basic colour scheme.

Use a low, light coloured, large sofa in a rough textured fabric as your staring point. The Habitat Askem sofa or John Lewis Prism sofa in the dark putty woven fabric will begin to build your interior design based around this desert toned interior design. Placing a textured rug in a heavy weave can be added to create a contrast of surfaces. For an interesting shade look at the French Connection pink and grey ethnic rug which would compliment the scheme. A heavier look would be a sisal rug like the Bastide rug from Maisons du Monde in the sand colourway.

Placing a coffee table in a light wood or a painted finish will complete the look and give you the opportunity to place some woven lanterns and suitable ceramics on top.

Accessories using rattan and light coloured cushions and a throw in a light yellow or coffee will bring the tribal theme to your home decor without overstating the point.

A calm serene look with warmth and style will be achieved in this interior decor setting.
