Modern Kitchen Design

Indigo decorating’s interior designers have been associated with sleek modern design, especially in our kitchen projects.

Even within this brief a kitchen needs to retain character and charm to counterbalance the hard edged appliances, flat work surfaces and functionality of such an area.

On occasions our design has been to create a space of outstanding effectiveness but giving the client a unique room to enjoy.

The art in combining all the practical elements of good kitchen living needs first to take account of the demands of the utilitarian side of cooking and storage.

We at Indigo never use wall units, as they are ugly overbearing and dated. A much better solution is to give the room enough space to have a form of pantry using tall elegant units. The type of cooker that you decide on will be quite a dominant feature in the room so that needs to be linked seamlessly into the units and whole design.

There are many to choose from, a range an Aga or a split level arrangement. These items may give you an opportunity to introduce an element of character depending on your choice.

Another element that lends itself to personal input is the lighting. We have sourced some very interesting lighting for our clients to add a bit of colour and light. In a London house we put some large copper globes in the basement kitchen. The units were plain white with a biscuit (Corian) work surface. The tall larder units were in walnut.

Altogether this gave the room loads of individuality in a modern working kitchen.

Have a look how the Interior designers in Cambridgeshire astutely designed a kitchen with space constraints into an island bar area with sleek modern cream unit.
