Home Colour Schemes

Often when decorating a study we think of manly pursuits such as dark leather captains chairs, heavy mahogany partners desks and racing green baize The problem is this room is not just going to be a man’s den, a retiring room to smoke and chortle. Ladies too work, shock horror and ladies too need a study and work area to fit their less clubbable tastes.
Even though pink is a great colour for any study we are looking at the tone really in it’s femine compassionate hue to form the basis of an interior design.
Taking inspiration from Dulux’s Rock Candy 6 use this to harmonise through all it’s variations. You can either paint the walls this pink or accent it in the fabrics and furnishings. To build a group of colours that will work together with this pink look at a Grey and a pale lavender or soft mousse brown and a thick cream. In both cases use the darker colour as a floor covering. A brown wooden floor or a grey carpet and the lighter neutrals as the background for textiles and ceramics.
Another approach is to use wallpaper with a pink background and pattern. A striking and dramatic choice would be Badaquin by Lorca part of the Louisane collection. This would be a good paper to use in a study as it is exotic and interesting, gives a good sense of pink but has enough lighter tones in the detail for it not to be too busy.
A white desk would look most effective in this room. Ikea’s Micke desk looks sleek and modern and of course is good on price. If you want something a little more sophisticated and minimalist, the Peter Peterson signalment open white desk could be the one for you. A funky chair would go well with this and you could introduce a pastel shade of green if you wanted to brighten up the space more. Almost any design by Arne Jacobsen would look cool.
A study can also be a restful area and so an easy chair covered in a aubergine velvet would be w welcome addition to the room. With pretty lighting and white shelves and storage you will create a soothing but energising room to enjoy.
