Every room needs a special item that will always give the owner pleasure. This could be a work of art or a photograph that has meaning for the person whose house it is. A classic piece of modern furniture can add that wow factor to your room and be a thing to treasure for the future.

Unusual chairs in particular lend themselves to being both practical and a talking point. Designs to look out for which will become as loved as a painting and add interest and shape to your room .The Egg chair 1958 by Arne Jacobsen is a beautiful elegant item that is the equivalent of the Georgian wing back chair. Its height and curved lines are useful in a modern living room as it contrasts with the lower sofas often seen in these rooms. It is also an opportunity to add a splash of bright colour in a neutral palette without being domineering.

Lower items like this are the Womb chair 1946 by Eero Saarinen which stands quite wide on chrome legs and the Mushroom 1960 by Pierre Paulin which is a comfortable rounded chair. If you feel you can cope with the outlandish the Eames Elephant is quirky but strange seat and will be certainly a talking point. These chairs will compliment the others in the room and need to be chosen for that purpose. They should be more dramatic than the rest of the furniture. Brighter bolder and stylish. There should be no chance of blending in, they stand alone.
